Sidney was the first overall pick in the 2005 NHL Draft. In September 2005, Crosby signed his first NHL contract; a 3-year deal that allowed him to make up to $12 million if he reached certain career milestones within that time.
On April 17, 2006, he got 3 assists against the New York Islanders to give him 100 points for the season. With that, he became the youngest player in the NHL ever to reach 100 points in a regular season (18 years, 243 days). And on May 31, 2007, Crosby was named captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was the youngest player in NHL history to be named a team captain (19 years, 297 days), beating out Vincent LeCavalier by 27 days (19 years, 324 days). He has led his team to the playoffs all but his first season in the league, and they have gone deeper in the playoff every year, including this year.
This year looks to be a grudge match between Crosby’s Penguins and the Red Wings of Detroit, as they played each other in the Stanley Cup Finals last year. Crosby looks to lead his Pen’s over the Red Wings this year so he can hoist his first Stanely Cup.
Sidney is probably the most recognized player in the NHL, although there is close contention with rival young all-star, Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. Crosby is only 21 years of age and will be 22 shortly after the Stanley Cup Playoffs are over.
So, in case you felt like your shit didn’t stink, Sidney Crosby could actually be old enough to be college senior. So had he decided to hold off on the instant stardom and wanted to finish school, he could be your classmate.
