Top 5 College Movies of All Time

With the fall semester only a month a way, I thought now would be a great time to pump everyone up with a list of great college movies.

These are my particular favorite, mainly because they get me crazy nostalgic for the wild frat house days of riding kegs down the staircase at parties.  Leave a comment below with any good ones I missed.

So you think you have a groundbreaking idea? Something that’s going to make you a millionaire without ever cracking a book ever again? The one that’s got you ready to call dad to cancel next semester’s tuition check?

Bad news boys and girls, the bong you just constructed from your shoelaces, a twinkie, and some miscellaneous tree bark isn’t it.

But wait, there’s hope for you yet. Before you decide that now might be a good time to actually study or (gasp!) take notes, check out a few people who are living on easy street without a college diploma gracing their mansion walls.

CARMELO ANTHONY

Unless he was on a secret one-year program or he earned a degree in running and jumping, ‘Melo left Syracuse University with an NCAA basketball championship, but without even coming close to graduating. He left after his freshman year, and went on to become the 3rd overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, 2 picks behind that Lebron guy who didn’t even sniff college.

Anthony did however move on to the greener pastures of the NBA, way greener. As in $19,410,581.00, the amount of money he made JUST THIS YEAR, according to Sports Illustrated’s annual “Fortune 50” list, chronicling the 50 athletes who earned the most money over the past year, a list on which Anthony finished 25th, oh and he was on gold medal winning United States basketball team this year at the Olympics, no big deal. Think he regrets not walking the stage in his cap and gown?

MARK ZUCKERBERG

This unmistakable 3rd person running update on ones life can only bring to mind college’s most addicting new drug: Facebook.

Yes, now you know the who, what, when, where, and why about your thousand or so best friends 24/7/365, and you have Mark Zuckerberg to thank for the privilege. Zuckerberg created the social networking website out of his Harvard dorm, which quickly spread to other schools all over the country, and eventually beyond, on it’s way to being the juggernaut it is today. He has parlayed the success of facebook, into unprecedented financial success at such a young age, becoming the youngest person ever to rank in the esteemed “Forbes 400” list of the 400 richest people in the United States in 2008, with a net worth of 1.5 billion dollars. Maybe he can have someone construct him a replica Harvard degree out of hundred dollar bills.

These next two characters are multi-billionaires who are indelibly linked as innovative minds who were at the forefront computer market from the beginning all the way up to today, they’re both billionaires many times over, and they also took the same road to success, the road less traveled, the road that doesn’t end with a degree.

BILL GATES

Gates is the ultimate achiever among this group. He dropped out of Harvard’s pre-law program after two years to pursue other interests, most specifically, programming, and his desire to start a company of his own. A little company known today as Microsoft. Microsoft is so lucrative today, that Gates can proudly call himself the richest man on the planet, and when in need (which he certainly has been), he is in position to hire the biggest and best in the field he once aspired to be in to protect his fortune.

STEVE JOBS

Jobs didn’t earn his billions with any pomp and circumstance either. Jobs, never really the school type, preferred to find out the answers on his own, in fact considered his experimentation with LSD “one of the two or three most important things he had done in his life.” That said, Jobs spent all of one semester at Reed College and it simply wasn’t for him. What was for him was a seemingly normal, average fruit that he would parlay into a fortune that you couldn’t spend in ten lifetimes. That’s right, Steve Jobs is the CEO of Apple Inc. He created that nifty little macbook that you and all your friends have, the one that you can’t help but notice in mass in every single classroom you enter, ironic isn’t it?

So, what have we learned from all of this? Education is overrated, especially if you can dunk and basketball… or have an appetite for psychedelic drugs. Maybe there is a market for that homemade bong of yours.

Regardless of how shy or loud you may be, the odds are that in college you will find yourself in a karaoke bar at one point or another.  It is always hard to pick the right song, while also trying to sing it and not make an ass out of yourself.  We made a list of some karaoke songs that are all fun and will have the entire place singing with you.  Are they all played out? Yes, but that makes it oh so much better…

Besides, it isn’t American Idol. It’s karaoke.  You want to be the most fun person there, not the ass that takes it way too seriously.

What guy wouldn’t like to get a sexy little surprise from their girl every now and then?   From a quick snapshot to a full on photo session, pictures are a racy little way for her to let you know what’s on her mind.  BUT don’t be surprised if she’s less than enthusiastic at first.  It’s only natural for her to be worried about her privacy – she doesn’t want anything plastered all over the internet if things don’t work out between the two of you.

Whether or not she takes the photos, she makes the rules.  Here are a few ways to make her feel a little more comfortable with it.

Make sure she “knows” that whatever is taken will be kept between the two of you.  As much as she loves your buddies, I’m sure she would prefer them NOT to see her in skimpy clothes and suggestive poses.

These pics are for your eyes only! (Not to mention the fact that if she’s under 18, those pics could equal some serious trouble.)

When she’s snapping the photos, it’s up to her to determine how she wants to tease you.  If she’s not willing to take it all off, don’t force the subject.  Be happy with lacy bras and stockings… they’re just a taste of what you’ll get, and when you see her you won’t want to take your hands off of her

If you’re the photographer, make her feel like she’s a star.  She may be into having her own personal photo shoot… the better she feels, the more she will reveal!  Tell her how hot she looks…. You never know what this little adventure will lead to!

Oh and feel free to reciprocate… Guys aren’t the only ones that want a little reminder to look back on!

Cynicism. It has become a staple in the sporting culture, somewhere in between Sammy Sosa suddenly forgetting how to speak English and Mark McGwire telling the world over and over (and over) that “he isn’t here to talk about the past” in front of the very same grand jury on steroid use in baseball. On that fateful day, the idea that our favorite athletes became great by drinking their milk, taking their vitamins, was as gone as a beef’d up Barry Bonds home run ball.

Now, we love to hate. Every athlete who emerges with a breakout year is met with a skeptic eye.  There’s nothing that could really surprise the public these days.

Or is there?

Even after the scandals, the tell-all books, and the mental asterisks we have placed on an entire era of America’s Pastime, each sport still has a sacred cow or two that fans cling to as their rock of purity in uncertain times. Here are a few athletes left that would really, truly, turn the sports world upside down if we found out that their performances were enhanced by anything more than a delicious bowl of wheaties.

Baseball: (tie) Albert Pujols and Derek Jeter:

This is the easiest sport to make this kind of designation because of how greatly its been affected by the use of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs. Pujols and Jeter are clear choices, but for entirely different reasons.

Lets start with Pujols, who he carries the same power pedigree that Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa had before him, however without the same dark cloud that has put their vast career accomplishments in question. This year Pujols may reach a number that may have become an even larger milestone: 61, the long cherished single season home run record that Roger Maris set in 1961, which stood until the hulking trio shattered the mark, starting with McGwire (70) and Sosa (66) in ’98 and Bonds (73) in 2001. If Pujols were to hit 62 or more this season, many would happily crown Pujols the single season home run king, because he’d have done so unlike any other: Naturally.

Derek Jeter never has, and never will challenge any home run records, but he must be mentioned because of what he DOES do: win. In an era where athletes have become obsessed with the name on the back of their jerseys, Jeter’s focus has always been about what’s on the front. The results, the stuff of legends: 4 World Series championships, a world series MVP, and perhaps most importantly: he’s synonymous with winning, clutch play, and doing it all the right way. Jeter might be only superstar of the so-called “steroid era” that would really shock baseball today if his squeaky clean image on the diamond was shattered.

Football: Peyton Manning

It was not too long ago that football, not baseball, was the sport that most associated with the use of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs, and with good reason: a sport full of huge, muscular guys, who at the same time fly around the field like a group of sprinters, it doesn’t seem natural. Such speculation, and rampant use was halted for the most part with an extensive drug testing policy and stiff punishments for offenders, very few of which have been superstars. This leaves a lot of room to discuss who would shock and disappoint the public most with a positive test. At the end of the day, the debate comes down to the two faces of the NFL, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. What separates Manning here, is quite literally, what’s inside him.

Peyton Manning was born to play quarterback; it’s in his DNA. His father, Archie, was a long time starting quarterback in the 70’s and 80’s and his younger brother, Eli, like Peyton has a super bowl victory and MVP on his resume. Both were also the first players chosen in their respective draft classes. Manning, in recent years, has also transformed himself from all an all business gunslinger, to a surprisingly charismatic pitchman for a variety of products. It’s nearly impossible to turn on a television during the football season without seeing the “6’5 quarterback with the laser, rocket arm” convincing us to buy cell phones, satellite dishes, and sneakers, and he does so with an unexpected level of comedy that has made him beloved beyond just fans of the sport.

The combination of on and off field success has provided him a huge fan base to potentially disappoint if he were to ever be associated with steroid use. It is almost impossible to conceive that someone with Manning’s background would ever need or want to resort to using performance enhancers, especially with most of his success being attributed to his mental and genetic gifts.

Such a discovery might have the most impact of any athlete in any sport, as it would create doubt for every other player in the sport, it would create a “if he can do it, who couldn’t?” sort of attitude amongst fans and analysts of the sport, creating the type of witch-hunt atmosphere that is present in baseball today.

Basketball: LeBron James

“King” James belongs on this list because of the too-good-to-be-true nature of him as an athlete. He has met all the considerable hype at every level, which began as far back as grade school, he comes off as very likeable, one of the first athletes you’d love to sit down and have a beer with, and plays with the flash and style that make all his games Must See TV. Now would be a good time to list stats, but for our purposes in this article, two numbers stand out above all:

6’8 and 250

These are James’ height and weight respectively according to his player profile at nba.com, and most regard the weight to be 10-15 pounds too low. However, despite being sculpted like a Greek god, James manages to run the floor like a gazelle. In baseball, a guy with this kind of game would be tabbed as the stereotypical juicer. In Basketball? He’s just one of the two best players on the planet, and the perfect package.

James is more than that though; he is probably the last athlete right now with those sorts of measurements that the sporting public takes at face value, just an anomaly that we’re lucky to have the pleasure to watch. It’s almost like a trip back to simpler times in the sporting world, where this was the rule, rather than the exception.

Swimming: Michael Phelps

A piece like this cannot end without mentioning Olympic hero Michael Phelps. Phelps captured Americas hearts along with a record eight gold medals at last summer’s Olympic games. Phelps is American athletics because he is what we expect of our country on the international stage: the best, no questions asked.  Finding out that he took anything illegal… well, anything illegal that actually helped him, would wipe out all of that, as well as all of the emotions that went along with watching him perform at that level.

As well as one of the few breaks left from our cynicism.

Allen from the Hangover

This “ritard” definitely stole the show in The Hangover. While some of us may have been aware of Zach Galifiankis before his satchel days, he is undeniably one of the funniest people in Hollywood at the moment. Throughout the movie, Allen grows on his wolf pack. At first, they seem pretty annoyed to have him along the trip and get fed up with his stupid one-liners. By the end of the movie, his wolf pack definitely grew by three wolves. If none of this has made sense to you, then you need to watch the movie. If you didn’t watch the movie then get out of here. Go! Don’t look at me. Hmph

Jack Sparrow

Yes, this character is played by Johnny Depp. Yes, girls love his character. Yes, it is from Disney. Does this classify it as gay? Maybe. Still, we can’t help but admire Jack Sparrow’s weird perspective on things and his knack for always finding a way out of trouble. Think of it as the pot-head in class or the slacker who goes to class once a semester. You don’t know how, but an F on his midterm and terrible attendance somehow becomes an A in the class.

Mr. Bean

From the way he looks to the way he act, this throwback character gives you mixed feelings. You like the guy, but for some reason you love when terrible things happen to him. He just makes it funny. Nonetheless, Mr. Bean is the man and he is welcome to party with us anytime.

Evan from Superbad

Evan isn’t so much a weirdo, but is way too much of a nice guy. Still, seeing Michael Cera telling a girl that she’d have a smooth dick if she had one will definitely put you in the weirdo category. The fact that Evan reminds us all a little bit of how we can be at times definitely makes the character one to root for.

Lance from Orange County

The guy dried his underwear in the oven. I mean come on now, if that is not awesome, what is? Jack Black is always a lovable weirdo in his roles, so this one was a given.

James Franco from Pineapple Express

We have to be honest: we weren’t huge fans of this movie. If it weren’t for James Franco, we really wouldn’t like it. Who knew that Peter Parker’s best friend, Harry Osborne, would become such a pot-head.

Kunu from Forgetting Sarah Marshall

This guy has the worst memory in the world, has done way too much drugs, and got beaten with a starfish. Hands down, the worst surfing teacher in the world. Still, being played by Paul Rudd means that everyone will like the character.

Augie from Role Models

Christopher Mintz-Plasse came on the scene with Superbad. He followed up with an awesome performance in Role Models. Both McLovin and Augie were awesome characters that you couldn’t help, but root for throughout the whole movie.

Goonie Cyclops

We just couldn’t resist on this one. Too good to pass up.

From what we collected, this is an unpaid marketing gig. Most people know the movie Fight Club, and if you do not you better watch it now or turn in your penis!  Brad Pitt plays Tyler Durden and is known for his instability and immovable stance as an agent of chaos throughout the movie. From his star-shaped abs to his shredded arms and shoulders, he is borderline Spartan.  He has the six pack, the defined arms, and the killer legs.  How did he do it?  What is his secret?  Well, just like the Cam Gigandet article, I am going to tell you.

FIGHT CLUB

The film was directed by David Fincher and stars Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, and Helena Bonham Carter. Norton plays the unnamed protagonist, an “everyman” who is discontented with his white-collar job in American society. He forms a “fight club” with soap salesman Tyler Durden, played by Pitt, and becomes embroiled in a relationship with him and a dissolute woman, Marla Singer, played by Carter.

THE WORKOUT

The first rule of the workout: you do not talk about the workout.  The second rule of the workout: you do not talk about the workout.  He performed 3 sets per exercise and used 60 second rest periods in between sets.  Pitt reportedly used a weight that would allow for 15 reps with proper form, where failure would be reached on the last repetition (body weight exercises were done for slightly more reps, however). When executing any workout that pushes you to muscle failure (when you start to twitch and your body just gives up), it is imperative that you distract yourself from the burn, but also focus on your form. I know this sounds contradictory, but you will avoid injury while also reducing pain.

Monday – Chest

3 sets– 75 push ups
3 sets – bench press – 25, 15, 8 reps (165, 195, 225)
3 sets – nautilus press (80, 100, 130)
3 sets – incline press (80, 100, 130)
3 sets – pec deck machine (60, 70, 80)

THE DIET

When you have a healthy and abundant diet with the right amount of protein, carbs, etc it makes it easier to obtain the body you desire.  Now, Brad Pitt has the body you want because it gets him laid.  For his Fight Club role, Pitt took on a very strict and consistent diet eating six (6) small meals a day which included a Whey Protein Powder and on occasion some protein bars, no other supplements were used by Pitt, however much of his nutrition came from whole foods high in protein like Chicken, Turkey, Fish, Lean Meat, Eggs and Cottage Cheese. Carbohydrates were very clean and included whole-wheats and grains, green vegetables, oats and rice cakes, which were then tapered off in his last two meals of the day.

In short: focus on eating as lean and clean as possible (no, this does not mean getting a salad at McDonald’s or eating at Subway). The diet is just as critical to getting chiseled, so stay focused! Try cooking – at least your food won’t be loaded with preservatives. Like the workout, the diet requires consistency and meticulous focus.

Breakfast: 6 eggs, 6 whites, 7 yellow and 75g of oatmeal with raisins. Occasionally Pitt would replace the eggs with a Protein Shake if his schedule was tight.

Midmorning snack: Tinned Tuna in Wholewheat Pitta Breads

Lunch: 2 x Chicken Breasts, 75-100g Brown Rice or Pasta and green veggies

Mid-afternoon snack [Pre-Workout]: protein bar or Whey Protein Shake and a Banana

Post Workout: Whey Protein Shake and a Banana

Dinner: Grilled fish or chicken, brown rice or pasta, vegetables, and salad.

Evening Snack: Casein Protein Shake Protein shake or Low Fat Cottage Cheese (Slow Release Protein)

CONCLUSION

This is not an easy workout, however it will give you results fast.  There is nothing special about the cells in Brad Pitt’s body.  If you follow the workout and eat properly, you can develop the same body he has.  Nothing is impossible.  Follow the workout, eat healthy, and get the results.

All guys should have seen the movie 300 starring Gerard Butler.  It was an action thriller full of gore and violence.  In the movie, all of the spartan warriors are in incredible shape.  Some have six packs, and some even have 8 packs!!  What is the secret?  Wouldn’t you like to know how to get an 8 pack.  Here is the famous 300 workout.

BACKGROUND OF THE WORKOUT

There has been a lot of talk about the workout Gerard Butler used to get into shape for the movie 300. The workout was generated by Mark Twight and consisted of 300 total repetitions from a variety of exercises. The actors and stuntmen trained for 8 – 10 weeks at Twight’s gym, Gym Jones in Salt Lake City. The gym has no air conditioning, no mirrors, and no chairs to sit in. 300 star, Gerard Butler, trained for 12 weeks there.  The goal of this workout was to get the actors in the shape as actual Spartan warriors were in.  As you can see, the actors were not fooling around and this was a legit gym.

WORKOUT

This workout is called the “300 Workout”.  At the end of their 3-4 months of working out, the actors were challenged to complete this workout.  The workout is to be performed in series with no rest between each exercise.

a) Pullups - 25 reps

b) Deadlifts with 135lbs – 50 reps

c) Pushups – 50 reps

d) 24-inch Box jumps – 50 reps

e) Floor wipers – 50 reps (basically benchpressing 135 pounds, but holding the weight in the air while you swing your legs up and down, while not touching the floor. The ultimate Ab workout.)

f) Single-arm Clean-and-Press with 36lbs Kettlebell – 50 reps

g) Pullups – 25 reps

Only half of the actors even tried this workout, with the best time going to Andrew Pleavin, who completed this in 18 minutes and 11 seconds.  Majority of the actors are ripped and if only HALF tried it, then you should wait.

Now listen, this workout is for the elite.  You must be in amazing shape and trully know you can handle this.  Completing this will clearly define you as a MACHINE!  This workout should be your goal.  Your goal should be to finish this in a row, AFTER months or years of hard training.  If you are set on doing this workout, then do it with BREAKS!

WORKOUT (MODIFIED FOR THE NORMAL MAN)

This workout is similar to the “300 workout” except it is for the normal person.  TRY not rest between exercises.  IF YOU HAVE TO, THEN REST.  DO NOT HURT YOURSELF!

15 bodyweight rows

25 bodyweight squats

15 pushups

50 jumping jacks

20 mountain climbers

10 close grip pushups

15 bodyweight rows

DIETING

The entire diet is composed of dining in hell. Unsure if that means eating harpies, Hades, demons, or lucifer. We were too scared to ask questions.

IN THE END

If you have seen the movie, you see how crazy the actors bodies are.  This workout is for the elite and not to be taken lightly!  DO THE MODIFIED WORKOUT FIRST!  Save the actual workout for a day when you feel ready.  The workout will get you in amazing shape, however you can get hurt so be careful!

1. The Girl Who Does Her Hair/Makeup/Nails

She apparently didn’t have time to do it in her dorm, so she’s doing it in class. I have no problem with girls and their hair, they usually just wear it in a ponytail or out..or whatever it’s called when it’s not tied up. Makeup is pushing it, because you didn’t come to class to look sexy (although my phallus appreciates it). I hate it when girls paint their nails in class, because I can’t stand the smell of nail polish. The smell of glue, now that’s a different story. Huh? Go to the bathroom and do that, God knows they spend ridiculous amounts of time in there anyways.

2. The Girl Who DOESN’T do her Hair/Makeup/Nails

To put it frankly….this girl looks like ass. Her hair is frizzy and all over the place, her eyes still have sleepies in them, and her hands look like she washed them with rocks. 99% of the time she will look awful. The days she doesn’t, you don’t recognize her until you ask like an idiot “did you just transfer to this class?” only to find out it’s been her all along… true story.

3. The Texter

Guys and girls are equally guilty of this, but damn girls make it an art form. The Blackberries are grafted to their hands, and when they type your eyes bleed from the blinding speed they text at. Seems like they’re writing the next all American novel too; the sheer volume of typing they do in class is equivalent to a semesters worth of papers. Ok I might be exaggerating. Or……..am I?

4. The Hot Girl Who Never Does Her Work

You’ve never seen her lift her pen. You see her texting, but you never see her textbook. Yet, she’s still in the class. Is she paying attention? No, she’s idly doodling while you’re cramping your hands trying to take stellar notes. She supremely unconcerned about the class…..which is why she sits next to you. One batting of her eyelash and you automatically give up your notes to her, all slack-jawed and tight pants. I say tight pants because you have an erection, not like, emo kid pants. Gross. You think letting her see your notes will lead to wild parties where you guys hook up because you let her copy your notes. I’ll be frank; you’re wrong.

5. The Girl Who is…..Just a Bitch

No matter what day it is, Earth Day, Valentines Day, The End of Days, she’ll find something to complain about. God forbid if you disagree with her on her complaining, or there will be a clean incision where you head used to be, because she’ll bite it off. At the end of the class you’re left scratching your head honestly wondering what you said to set the rocket off, as she prowls to her next class, and her next victim.
