As you know by now: We are the REAL guide to campus life. Not the squeaky-clean, eat your vegetables bull-shit. We’re here to make sure you have a damn good time at college that you’ll never forget, taking everything it has to offer…and when it’s all said and done, we want you leaving with a good grades and a lifetime worth of memories, all without trying. So…as to being honest and real…
In case you go to ILiveUnderaRock University: You are going to be exposed to more drugs than you can imagine in college.
One of these drugs you’ll be exposed to is Adderall. We have a pharmacy student from St. John’s who is going to break it down for you, this way:
a. If you decide to take it, you’ll at least be educated on the matter.
b. If it comes up in a conversation, you’ll seem like someone who knows your shit.
So…What the hell is it?
In simple terms Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant, which means it affects the chemicals in your brain as well as your nerves. The generic name for Adderall is amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. A generic name means another company makes a drug extremely identical to it. The brand names for Adderall are Adderall and Adderall XR. Adderall is a prescription drug, which means that a physician must write a prescription for it. You cannot receive Adderall over the counter. It’s simply impossible to walk into a pharmacy or drug store and expect to see Adderall on the shelf for anyone to pick up. At the same time, the restrictions on Adderall don’t seem to be so tight, considering it’s growing presence on the college scene.
What is it meant for?
Adderall is predominately prescribed to patients who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This condition occurs when a child or adult has a short attention span and becomes easily distracted by most things. Additionally people who are overly emotional, excessively active, and who are highly impulsive may take Adderall. Narcolepsy, which is also a condition that required Adderall, is a chronic neurological disorder caused by the brain’s inability to regulate sleep-wake cycles normally.
Why would college students want to take Adderall?
Adderall is starting to be abused by college students across the nation. A college student will take Adderall because it is going to help them focus; whereas, it’s intention is for those who have attention disorders and cannot focus. If they have an imperative exam and they need to pull an all nighter, Adderall becomes a tough drug to pass by. It helps you focus throughout the whole night, giving you little distraction. Adderall keeps you awake and attentive so you can study all night and be prepared for your exam. This drug will keep you awake for around four hours per dose. The Adderall XR (XR stands for extended release) can keep somebody awake from eight to twelve hours per dose.
How much should someone take?
The average eighteen year old should take at most 2 tablets of Adderall 5 milligrams per day. If somebody takes more than this without a doctor’s consent, that person is jeopardizing his or her health.
Please…lately it seems like taking a shit jeopardizes my damn health. How bad can it get?
It can get really bad. Less serious side effects of Adderall may include but are not limited to, headache or dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, diarrhea and/or constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and even a loss of interest in sex may occur. Like any drug, becoming dependent on Adderall will cause you to develop an addiction. Some severe side effects that can be accompanied by Adderall are fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeats, feeling light-headed, fainting, increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure), tremor, restlessness, hallucinations, unusual behavior, or motor tics (muscle twitches).
In some cases, Adderall may cause sudden death. All of these side effects can have devastation results on your body.
Hoooly Crap. Let’s say I want to have a loss of interest in sex and die by taking Adderall…How much will it cost me?
Adderall is an extremely expensive drug. The average cost for the brand name for Adderall is around $110 for only thirty pills. This is however the prescription price for Adderall without insurance. The average cost for the generic drug of Adderall is around $53.00. All of these prices are from a pharmacy and they do not include insurance. On the college scene, they are usually sold anywhere from $5.00 to $15.00 a pop.
Being completely honest: Would you recommend it?
Nope. It is a highly dangerous drug that can have devastating effects. It is an expensive drug and if it becomes an obsession, financial problems can arise. If somebody overdoses on this drug, they can face serious consequences including the worst one, fatality. I feel that it is safer to drink coffee or an energy drink or even eat candy in order to stay awake. Ultimately, there are numerous options that can replace Adderall.
Our take: We do know plenty of college kids who did use it and say that it helped them study and get an A. At the same time, we know more students who studied without it and got an A. One thing we noticed is that students that normally don’t study…study when they take Adderall. No shit that you’ll know more of the subject matter if you study, with or without the pills. The choice is completely yours, but after hearing “loss” and “sex” in the same sentence…we’ll just be fine without it.

“In case you go to ILiveUnderaRock University: You are going to be exposed to more drugs than you can imagine in college.”
Hahahah. That funny, man. I always took that shiz. didnt know it could do all that- hot damn!
Very informative article
Really informative, ill definitly think before i take Adderal.
Damn. Can cause a loss of interest in sex. I think that one line will keep me from switching from caffeine to Adderall for all-nighters. And $110 for thirty pills? No wonder the guys who sell it charge so much per pill.
This is a great article, I never really though about the side effects of Adderall but it’s good to know for the future. And I completely agree, an A on one test is not worth a loss of interest in sex.
This is very interesting. Now ill think twice about taking Adderall.
I never would have known
knowledge is power
Nice article…very imformative
Extremely informative, very well written, details are clear and easy to understand. Job well done mate
This was a very impormative article, and i completely agree loss of interest in sex is more then a reason to pop open a red bull then some adderall.
and just 2 let every1 know i can’t spell
I LOVE THAT STUFF : )
I love adderall…i eat it with milk and a spoon. Nom Nom Nom
Loss of interest in sex is some seriously scary shit tho. Props for this article being useful and funny/entertaining. I’m one picky ass reader.
hahahah….preach Frat Guy, preach.
This is like princeton review, but the real shit…not kiss-ass like. And it aint like break or collegehumor bc the shit is useful, too.
word.
After being a college student for three years, i have gained a knowledge about the different drugs you will encounter and be exposed to while attending. Adderall is just one of the few and this article definitely sums up the true affects and realities of it. I would say that every freshmen should read this article about Adderall, and if possible other articles of other drugs that present the info in such a blunt way so they have the knowledge of what it and other drugs are about. This way if the situation arises YOU are aware and can make the best decision for yourself and no one else.
WOW!! I had no idea that Adderall was that detrimental to your health. This was a very informative and helpful article. I just guess I will have to find a new way to stay up all night to get my work done.
Def gotta go for the energy drinks now lol. Don’t wanna have a loss of sex interest fo show…
Wish i would have known about some of these effects before. Definitely gotta find a new way to stay up and study. Thanks.
Great Article … Learned alot
only use it during finals, im not tripping everything has possible side-effects, non-prescription drugs have a lot of these side-effects too.
wow i never knew that Adderall could do so much damage to your health….good article
Great article man. My only criticism is that it seems to be biased. I’m not saying everyone should take Adderall because it is so awesome, but be a little more clear on some things.
For example, out of all the side effects you listed, the only common ones are dry mouth, insomnia, and loss of appetite; the rest occurred in less than 5% of users, depending on dosage.
As far as loss of interest in sex, less than 1%, and it went away when the drug was out of their system.
All the severe side effects you listed were only in cases of overdosing. (Including death)
As for cost, depending on where you are, and the dosage, Adderall is really not that expensive. 30mg pills usually go for $5, if its XR, they can be as high as 2 for $15.
If you have a prescription for Adderall, it will cost your insurance company $110 for a bottle of 30 pills, but only cost you about $10.
All-in-all if you have ADHD or a similar disorder, Adderall might do wonders for you. If you just want it to study, be cautious; ask yourself if pros really outweigh the cons? Make the decision for yourself, because there are alternatives, but sometimes a cup of coffee just won’t cut it.
Good papers Langs. Now i noe i should stick to drugs that grow.
Adderall can be all you said but. You might want people to know more about what you said here “A generic name means another company makes a drug extremely identical to it.” Well, I am going to have to say that is 1/2 right. A generic is a drug that nine of ten times is made by the drug company who invented it as well as other companies manufacturing medicinal drugs. The price drop is because pharmaceutical companies
All are generic manufacturers in part & do not incur the cost of drug discovery, and instead are able to reverse-engineer known drug compounds to allow them to manufacture bioequivalent versions. Generic manufacturers also do NOT bear the burden of proving the SAFETY and efficacy of the drugs through clinical trials, since these trials have already been conducted by the brand name company.
Generic drugs SHOULD be identical or bioequivalent to the brand name counterpart with respect to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties according to the FDA.
Just remember bioequivalent versions are what hope is the same as the drug’s that did have clinical trials.
By the way Adderall is a brand-name drug psychostimulant composed of mixed amphetamine salts, (all pill’s are salt based) which is thought to work by increasing the amount of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain. Adderall is widely reported to increase alertness, concentration and overall cognitive performance while decreasing user fatigue. It is available in two formulations: immediate release and extended release (XR). The immediate release formulation is indicated for use in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy, while the XR formulation is only approved for use in ADHD. In the United States, Adderall is a Schedule II drug under the Controlled Substance Act. Safe when taken as directed there is no way you can tell anyone here that two 5MG Pill’s a day is safe I know you should & have no right to tell the public what a safe dose of any drug is never mind a Schedule II narcotic. I have no problem with adderall as is being used but that is my take & I DO NOT TELL PEOPLE I THINK THERE IS A SAFE AMOUNT TO TAKE! For you to do that is not wise & I am not trying to be mean I am trying to keep you from having a finger pointed at you if god forbid anyone has a bad reaction to your idea of what is safe for the public to take.
People will do as they want as this drug is big in college & I think eight of ten know why.
Just stay safe enjoy what & who you do.
Has anyone heard of this new one called PROFIDERALL??? It is supposed to do the same thing as Adderall, but without a prescription. http://www.profiderall.com
But we cannot expect that the ‘laws of physics’ derived from it suffice straightaway to explain the behaviour of living matter, whose most striking features are visibly based to a large extent on the ‘order-from-order’ principle. ,
In short, leagues to urge bank runs, or the threat of their for- mation, will be able to stop and reverse the monetary expansion. ,
i love the stuff and it made me lose weight!
i love the stuff and it made me lose weight you just have to control how much you take.
Adderall is sold with precription, so you can buy Profiderall without it and it is pretty much the same as Adderall, but still you know “Oral is not pussy fuck..”
I study and review my notes every night. If I do not take Adderall, then I will most likely get a C or maybe a B on a test. But when I do take Adderall the night before, I will always get an A. I don’t have ADD/ADHD, but Adderall does help me tune out all the distarctions and help me focus on the material being covered. My sex life is just great thank you very much. And if a sex life is more important to you than good grades, then yes don’t take it.
