Seeing as this is the college life you are living, this is normal. It’s Saturday morning, or Sunday morning, or really any morning of the week, and you have a splitting headache and are seeing double. Your intestines are warped, your mouth is dried out, the wall is mocking you by standing up straight. And, worst of all, your parents are on their way. Or your girlfriend’s coming over. Or you have a big exam this morning. Whatever the case, you’re in dire straights pal, and you need a quick fix. Luckily, there are a wide array of hangover cures available to you.

Water

H2O is a must. As you likely know from the frequent trips to the bathroom during a night of debauchery, alcohol is a diuretic and can cause dehydration. Before falling into bed, down 16 to 20 ounces of water, says Daniel K. Hall-Flavin, M.D., a consultant in addiction psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic. And the next time you go out, he recommends ordering a glass of water with every beer—and alternate between the two to replace lost fluids as you go.

Sophisticate!

Listen: We get it. You’re in collage. So you’re going to want to sit around, either in a frat house or in your dorm, and get loaded on the cheap shit. That’s what collage is for. It starts you off at the bare bottom of drink quality, to give you a little base to build off of. But then, after college folks, you will be leaving behind those Natty Ices and Milwaukee Beasts, that shit beer you can get a 24-pack for five bucks, and move onto drinks that actually, surprise-surprise, taste good.

Over at AskMen.com, they know that eventually you’re going to be looking for something a bit more sophisticated, which is why they devoted an entire post to classy wines to drink this year while at summer parties. They call them “Hot-Weather Wines” and, boy, are they delicious. For example:

Dry Rosé

Many people who drink take shots of tequila at least once in their life.  It is a very strong drink to handle.  In this article, I am going to give some simple steps into helping you have the best tequila experience.

BEFORE THE SHOT

Try to eat something that will not bother your stomach or might make you throw up.  Also, do not eat right before the shot.  Have a nice size meal a couple of hours before you go out.  Try not to have any alcoholic beverages before the tequila shot because it might make you throw up.  Tequila is very strong!  Figure out what type of tequila shot you want.  Most of the time, the more expensive the shot, the smoother it goes down.  But if you want to just start out, try Jose Cuervo.  It is a popular brand of tequila.  But hey, if this recession is not killing you and you have money to spend, go for an expensive one.

ORDERING THE SHOT

You tell the bartender what type of shot you want and he will give it to you.  He will also hand you salt and a slice of lime.  The salt and the slice of lime is basically a chaser for the tequila.

1st STEP

The first step into taking a tequila shot is to lick your hand.  Just a little lick on the top of your hand or the skin in between your thumb and forefinger will be enough.  This is going to be used for the salt. (Try to lick the hand that you will not use to hold the glass for taking the shot.)

2nd STEP

You put a small amount of salt on your skin where you licked it.  It will stick to the skin because of the saliva.

3rd STEP

Take the slice of lime that the bartender gave you and hold it in the hand you have the salt on (like the picture above).  Hold the lime with your thumb and index finger.  Now your chasers are ready. If you’re man enough, and you should be because any college girl would be down to do this: hand a nearby girl the lime wedge to pass to you mouth to mouth.

4th STEP

Now that you are ready, the next couple of things you do should be done quickly.  First you lick the salt off of your hand.  Then you take the shot of tequila.  Try to make it go down in one gulp.  Tilting your head sometimes works.  Then bite and suck on the lime, and you are done.  Remember, practice makes perfection. Drink carefully my friends, the only thing that should lower your standards is a threesome.

After you finish all of these steps and you have taken one shot, go grab a hot girl and invite her for a shot.

It makes sex even better…sometimes. College guys seemingly know everything there is to know about sex and alcohol. However, many guys will experience a failed night of love making once in a while thanks to excessive intoxication. Urban Dictionary defines whiskey dick as a man’s failure to get a stiffy, due to too much booze in his system. Pretty self-explanatory. There are certain tips to keep in mind when you are out drinking with friends and know ahead of time that you will be having a visitor later in the night.

BEER BEFORE LIQUOR

Drink smart guys. Sticking to beer for the night will keep you less sloppy and more functional. With every shot you take you are running the risk of a failed performance. You can generally gauge the situation through your own scope. Obviously you adjust your drinking habits if you are out at the bars with a girl opposed to a night out with the guys. An experienced college guy will always know what types of drinks his blood can or cannot handle.

THE MAGIC NUMBER

Every man has a magic drink number found through trial and error. For the average college male, this number may be somewhere in the 7 to 10 range. This is your benchmark. If you surpass this number, don’t plan on satisfying anybody. On the plus side, a man’s prime performance occurs when hitting the magic number range. Your nerves are calmed, you’re relaxed, and you can go all night. This concept will teach you to monitor your drinking at parties and bars.

There’s no need to be embarrassed. If it does happen, you can just blame it on the booze like everything else.  It’s a perfectly legitimate excuse, and will  give your bros something to laugh about at your expense in the morning. If you find this problem is occurring far too often, then you may want to re-evaluate your drinking habits.

Keep the system in your mind: drinking results in alcohol thinning your blood. Getting your, eh hem, love weapon loaded required blood being rushed to that area. If you thin your blood to much, it won’t be as responsive.

CAMPUS CASANOVA’S TAKE

We asked our resident Campus Casanova about drinking and the repercussions when you take a girl back to her place (he refuses to take girls back to his). In short, he came up with three rules to always abide by.

RULE 1:

If you are wining and dining her, remember to drink water to keep yourself feeling buzzed, but not getting hammered.

RULE 2:

If she is out and already hammered and you can tell that she is ready to go, don’t be a fool by getting yourself hammered to oblivion to show that you can keep up with her.

RULE 3:

When you are on the way back to her place, get a bottle of water. Drink the water at every chance you get, this will bring your blood back to a state of regularity eventually, while keeping the feel-good buzz.

With school starting back up, who wants to remember their summer vacations to Mexico, Aruba, or Jamaica? I know I’m on that list, so why not keep it going no matter where you are and what time of the year it is. This shot should be shaken with ice before served to you in your glass. While you’re at it, man up and skip the salt and the lime or lemon, the sting will only be with you for a few seconds anyway. This shot is also great for parties where bikinis and Hawaiian shirts are the theme of the night!

1 1/4 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey

Don’t get caught doing the similar shot, Washington Apple, unless you want people to wonder what way you are swinging. Crown Royal is tasty, don’t get me wrong, but there is something so much more masculine about Jameson. Irish are known for two major things…1)Fighting and 2)Drinking. The Jameson will burn so good all the way down, even with the Apple Pucker and cranberry juice. Warning: Too many Irish Apples might make you dance a jig you don’t even know the steps to, so make sure you drink enough that you’re stuck in your seat unless you’re ready for the world to see your Irish side!!

Each year millions of people consume energy drinks and take energy drugs to stay attentive.  But have you ever thought if they trully work.  Is it your mind that wakes you up when you see the energy sign on the bottle?  Do energy drinks trully give you energy?

WHAT ARE ENERGY DRINKS AND DRUGS?

APPLE JACKS

I recommend most definitely shaking, not stirring this tasty shot that will leave you with smiles all over. Though, most of you men out there can handle taking a shot of Jack Daniels without taking a second thought, the girls who you want to join you may not. The Apple Pucker takes a hint of the bite out of the Jack Daniels and makes you remember the days of eating the famous cereal. My recommendation: Buy a round of Apple Jacks. Bring them over to the group of girls you’ve been eyeing. And lastly, laugh till you hurt, drink till you’re thirsty, and always have the best time on campus!!

Can it be?  There is going to be a pill that can actually help people retain information?  Many people think this is all a hoax.  People do not believe there can be a pill that can help you memorize an abundant amount of information.  Well, some scientists would like to say otherwise.

WHAT IS PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY?

Photographic memory is usually defined as the capablility to recall images, objects, or sounds with accuracy, clarity, and in a great amount.  Now there are numerous techniques you can find online that can teach you how to enhance your memory.  Most people will agreee that it is easier if a pill did that for you so you do not have to work.  Well, the pill might have been created!

THE PILL

A group of Spanish scientists claim to have singled out a protein that can extend the life of visual memory significantly.  They tested this pill with mice and found out that the mice retained information for about 2 months.  Now we know there is a big difference between a human and a mouse, but this is a step in the right direction

HOW THEY DID IT

Unlike the long-term memory creation that was imaged recently, this memory extension only applies to memories made through the poorly-understood visual cortex of the brain. The scientists first removed from mice the portion of the brain believed to be associated with visual memories–layer six of the V2 region–and showed that the mice could no longer remember any object they saw. They then increased the production of a group of proteins–RGS-14–created in that cortex. The mice’s retention of visual images was increased almost 1,500 times.  WHAT THIS BASICALLY MEANS IS…. the scientists found the protein that mice are lacking to retain information and stimulated its synthesis.  Now we do not know how dangerous this is because increasing a protein in your brain may be deadly.  As we see their memory capability increased 1500 times. That is incredible!

NOW HOW WILL THIS AFFECT ME?

Do you remember all of those nights craming for that test?  Studying powerpoint slides over and over again?  Well if this pill is created and deamed safe for humans, then goodbye to the all-nighter.  This pill is going to revolutionize how students study.  People may consider this cheating, HOWEVER let us embrace the fact that a pill is going to lessen the stress for millions of college students. If you need to get somewhere, you will have to read the map once and will be able to get their with no trouble.  Difficult memory games will become obsolete.  Just imagine if you remember something one day and you could remember that one fact for over a month!!

HOWEVER, there are multiple ethical questions that are based on this.  Multiple people feel that academic requirments in school will increase because of this new medication.  People will retain more information and therefore universities are going to have higher requirments.  Additionally many people feel that the pill should be given to people who have diseases, such as Alzeimer’s Disease, because they lack normal memory ability.  People feel that recreational use should not be allowed because it would be cheating.  Overall, lets just say for now that the pill will be available for college students and we can retain all the information our professors need us to memorize.

RECOMMENDATION

This pill looks amazing.  It is going to revolutionize how everyone studies in college.  It looks like this pill is going to bring the college student less stress, better grades, and a much easier college experience.  However I do not like that they will increase the protein in the brain.  I know this is a new pill and plenty of more studies need to be done, but increasing anything in the body can be deadly.  So as of now this pill looks like a life-saver, but more tests will need to be taken.  We will keep you posted on new information about this pill.

To be quite honest the cure to your hangover is right in your kitchen.. or in your stashbox.

FOOD

Not sure what the BEST type of food works, but food nonetheless. Various studies indicate that greasy foods are the best option to cure a hangover, while other studies indicate that eating greasy foods before you drink is they key.  While you won’t feel up to eating: it’s what you need.

After vomiting your insides out, your body is running on nothing but your own self-satisfaction because you drank a lot last night, chief! If you need to know what types of food will help cure your hangover ask a scientist. We don’t suggest asking two though, because their answers may contradict one another.

WATER

They call it the essence of life for a reason. Water not only saves lives, but it can also take them (damn you, Poseidon). Drinking healthy amounts of water throughout your gruesome morning will ensure a speedy recovery. You might pee a lot, but no pain no gain. For extra help drink some water before you go to sleep/pass out. This way your body starts to work out the alcohol while you sleep.  Alcohol dehydrates your body and also thins your blood.  Drinking water will replenish and also get your bloodstream functioning right.

MARIJUANA

A personal favorite. Light up however you like to get down (vaporizer, blunt, bong, jbird). The active ingredient in marijuana, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), will relieve that tummy ache and headache in no time. Ganja (which FYI: is a word from the ancient Hindu language Sanskrit) also gives you the munchies and cottonmouth. How do you cure those two symptoms? Take a wild guess. If you’re really that stumped just re-read the article. It’s like a time paradox, where once you get to the end you realize it goes back to the beginning.

Seeing as how you have to do two of these three things to maintain a pulse, you’ll be an expert at drinking without a hangover in no time.
